It specifically deals with communications between smart autonomous systems such as unmanned vehicles, robots, satellites and networked microsensors, amongst others, in environments of limited, ad hoc and/or opportunisitic connectivity. The project addresses the following objectives: 1. Analysis of the state of the art in network-centric communications under harsh or degraded conditions, with special focus on Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networking. 2. Analysis of the state of the art in network-enabled autonomous intelligent systems, concentrating on: 2.1. Unmanned vehicles (ground-, air- and sea-based). 2.2. Industrial and consumer robots. 2.3. Satellites and space probes. 2.4. Wireless micro-sensors. 3. Definition and preliminary design of dynamic communication protocols for planned and ad hoc connections to heterogeneous disrupted networks. 4. Identification of novel methodologies for the secure broadcast of resource availability on the network (that is, the capability to advertise the presence of new systems and their shared resources as they engage the network). 5. Identify efficient means of performing disrupted computing and communications with the objective of improving the reliability and robustness of collaborative missions. 6. Perform live experiments with real and virtual autonomous systems in shifting environments of heterogeneous and intentionally-degraded wireless networks. We are not intending to coordinate, but would be also fine if no one else takes the lead. The objective is to work on: 1) virtualizing wireless nets resources 2) utilizing opportunities with wireless mesh nets: throughput, routing, performance, and security Any comments, suggestions, inputs, and contacts with me are more than welcome. A business process is a structured set of activities designed to produce a specified measurable result for a particular customer or market. The common understanding behind Business Process Management (BPM) is that each company’s unique way of doing business is captured in its business processes. In the last years, BPM has become a common tool in larger IT projects and workflow engines able to execute business processes became quite popular. In depth discussion between the industry and the research community about the realization of the Event-Driven BPM in the Future Internet of Services is needed. The remote diagnosis service will be improved continuously by using the knowledge gained in the center for various applications with different solutions and correlating them will show a decisive factor for the decisions took in the next activities. This will diminish the time for solving the problems and the time for stopping the plant through software strategies. This project aims to achieve a software packet unique on the European market, bringing new features even to the international market. PH Center will run remotely, via Internet, supervising and tuning the control loops even if they are affected by different kinds of perturbations. The development of this product will increase competitiveness on the industrial market. The main advantage of remote tuning system is that it assures intervention at anytime and from anywhere in the world. The software package can be used permanently for the analysis of several the control loops or to monitor the performance of already tuned loops, preventing hazards. Moreover, PH Center offers the advantages of reducing the time during which the plant works at critical parameters, extending the life cycle of the technological installation, reducing the risk of material loss, reducing the risk of polluting or human casualties. Therefore, PH Center will increase the safety in industrial processes and will deal with crisis management. Besides that, sustainability, and more particularly, CO2 emission reduction, is a prioritized goal after Kyoto Protocol was signed up by all European countries. One of the most important fields is buildings design, construction and exploitation, one of the sectors with highest CO2 emission and with highest energy consumption. European normative (SAVE 76/93 CO2, for instance) and regional normative (Basic document HE for energy saving, technical code for buildings, March 2006) enforce the obligation for new building projects to be optimized in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability. Public opinion is being more and more sensible about those issues. To address the problem of efficiency of energy in buildings, the integral life cycle of the building has to be analyzed in an integrated manner. The recent European directives go in that direction. There are 3 stages in the life cycle of a building project in which energy efficiency has to be addressed: • Design: nowadays only buildings marketed as “bioclimatic architecture” address energy in design • Choice of materials: nowadays energy in materials is rarely taken into account. Embodied energy, transport and mounting have to be taken into account, and the optimal physical properties of new materials like composites are often underestimated by lack of knowledge. • Installations, exploitation: nowadays often addressed independently, without taking into account previous stages Architects and engineers need integrated tools and expert support they don’t have right now. They use diverse software tools for geometry 3D design, structures computation, materials databases, illumination, acclimatization, renewable energy generation, and so on. Software is dispersed and neither communicates nor integrates. There’s a clear need for an integrated intelligent decision support software tool for energy efficiency optimization for buildings. Objectives The proposed solution is to create a user friendly software application with advanced AI techniques, which will ask for inputs such as Design of building project, potential use of renewable energies, installations and exploitation needs, etc. to outcome as outputs an Expert set of alternatives for energy efficiency improvement, and multiple and flexible options to fix a number parameters of the set of selected alternatives and set up ranges for others to iteratively seek the optimal solution in terms of energy efficiency. The incorporation of the suggested alternatives, by means of different modules, to the project will interact with the rest of factors, will affect the building and maintenance costs, and consumption of energy, all that quantified by the application to enable the decision making. For the development of the project some third party software components might be integrated which will solve issues which commercial standalone products already solve, and which architects and engineers currently use, such as 3D Geometry, CAD, Materials Databases, Structures computation, Installations of light and climate, Renewable energy sources. Dissemination will include the most relevant issues and publications.
