Project I-LEARN aims at developing and experimenting the learning environments
needed to support new pedagogical approaches to e-learning based on the
cognitivist and constructivist theories which could be applicable in different
learning / teaching scenarios encompassing formal education in high school,
university and vocational training schools. Trials will be carried out with
real users in several test-bed locations (formal education institutions at
different levels).

following areas: 
- Theoretical and organisational models for e-learning 
- Objective /subjective measurements of learning effectiveness 
- E-learning content provision for high-schools, universities, or vocational
schools

Conceptual understanding of system's behaviour is an important aspect in
science education. Qualitative Reasoning implements a formal approach to
knowledge capture originating from artificial intelligence that can be used to
express, analyse, and communicate conceptual knowledge. Based upon our
previous
work (www.garp3.org) we want to establish and coordinate a project in which
tools for qualitative reasoning (and artificial intelligence in general) are
further developed into an interactive learning environment that inspires and
motives learners in wanting to understand and explain the behaviour of
systems.


Expertises demandées:
They are looking for partners with the following expertise:
- Intelligent interfaces (particularly focusing on multi-agent systems,
personified characters, and individualised interaction) 
- Semantic web and ontologies (as the basis for sharing and reusing knowledge,
and to establish the foundation for the 'semantic Wiki') 
- User modelling and dialogue (to address issues such as matching peers,
planning interaction steps, but also focusing on dialogue and negotiation as
interaction formats between learners and, between learners and software) 
- Science education (particularly concerning Environmental science and the
design of science curricula) 
- Domain experts and teachers in the area of Environmental science (to
steer the
development from a domain point of view and to apply the technology in their
natural educational setting)

The partners can provide a technical contribution (and work on software
implementation), and/or they can provide a conceptual contribution (and
work on
design and usage of the software developed in the project).

A huge amount of news stories is being published on daily basis. EU-NeWa will
introduce a novel way of interactive news stories tracking across the EU.
Based
on sentiment indicator measurements, users will be able to sort the news by
different psycho-social aspects. One of the project goals also includes a
system for collecting news stories from heterogeneous, evolving and
inconsistent data sources ranging from official news feeds to personal blogs.
Advanced data mining techniques will be used in the final stage of the project
where collected data will be used to forecast future trends based on
historical
data from European statistical system - Eurostat.
