Current femtocell equipment is not likely to interoperate. · The need for femtocell-specific handset optimization. It is not yet clear whether there will be a need for new handsets that can operate efficiently in dense femtocell deployments. · Although femtocells can easily be plugged in a fixed broadband modem, there is currently no guarantee that the fixed broadband connection will prioritize voice traffic for a service without interruptions. · The need for a new network planning and design. · The complexity of spectrum management in the case of femtocells. · The need for methodologies to avoid femto to macro interference and educate consumers on the ideal femtocell placement in the home. Despite all the above challenges relevant to a massive deployment of femtocells, the current business case for femtocells (and alternative technologies) is still only focusing on providing enhanced coverage for high-quality voice calls in the home at rates similar to those of fixed-line networks. What FREEDOM will do The project does not targets at impacting on the current development of femtocells (as chips and protocols are either already developed or in the final stage), but specifically targets to the next generation in the frame of the wireless network, femtocells and ADSL services seen as an integrated system. The end-to-end objective of the project is to move from the current vision of a wireless network in which the femtocell are deployed at home by the end-user (and where femtos are a problem from the external network viewpoint because of the injected interference), toward the “Network & femtocells & ISP” vision in which the parts are integrated and cooperate in a coordinated fashion: in this vision the presence of the femtocells can be viewed as an additional (distributed) resource to be exploited rather than a source of interference. To accomplish this task, the project will face in a coordinated manner the major challenges associated to the massive femtocells deployment, not only from the solely technical point of view, but also incuding them in a business case, with a major focus on IPR generation and on the impact on the standardisation. Présentation de la proposition: The project will pursue the objectives by implementing the following workplan: WP1 – Requirements and dissemination WP2 – Femto-based cooperative network design WP3 – Interference management in femto-based network WP4 – RRM for femtocells WP5 – Hardware Demonstrator Expertises demandées: We are currently searching three different/complementary partner profiles. · PROFILE-1: Manufacturer either directly involved in WiMAX or LTE femtocells production (or parts of it) or having the femtocells production within their short-term strategic industrial plans (1-2 yrs). · PROFILE-2: Wireless network operator that has the femtocells deployment is its strategic plans in the short and mid-term (1-2 yrs) as well as the vision of future networks based on coexistence of relays and femtocells. · PROFILE-3: Internet service provider who is aware of the impact coming from a massive femtocells deployments on its services and additional requirements, having in its strategic plans either the collaboration with wireless network operators or the provision of new services/applications dedicated to the femto-users. Partenaires recherchés: · PROFILE-1: Femotocell (or components of) Manufacturer · PROFILE-2: Wireless network operator · PROFILE-3: Internet service provider The proposer is not looking for a coordinator. The system will be based on an autonomous insulin delivery pump attached to a device capable of continuous real time glucose sensing, thus mimicking the islet beta cells activity. A key differentiator is being a circulatory system linked loop based on the coordinator proprietary mode of access to the circulatory system. This would allow real time, long term glucose sensing for accurate therapeutic decision making capabilities. Insulin would be also directly delivered to the circulation thus allowing instantaneous effect and very quick deactivation, which are two important features crucial for closing the loop. Real time long term access to the circulatory system is the missing link for the development of an artificial pancreas solution. Présentation de la proposition: The project main goal is to develop a novel closed-loop system, based on an established technology, which will provide a new class of diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic tool for diabetic patients personalized healthcare. By offering individual solutions for managing chronic diabetes, the personalized healthcare device will give patients the desired control over their treatment thus avoiding complications while enabling an independent high quality of life. The proposed closed-loop system would provide three major elements: (i) an accurate, long lasting and real time biocompatible glucose sensing unit capable of frequent or continuous sampling; (ii) a safe substance (such as insulin or other hormones) delivery device with no tail affect; and (iii) a control system that modulates delivery of insulin according to glucose levels. The loop will be basically composed of three modules: 1) an implanted glucose sensor; 2) an insulin pump and 3) a wireless control pager. Linking glucose level monitoring to insulin secretion will be based on newly developed algorithms adjusted to the proposed mode of accessing the circulatory system. The external pager will administrate and monitor glucose rate every 5 minutes (continually mode) and when upper/lower threshold is exceeded, ping/visual-audio alert/massage will be sent. On top, early indication of excessive trend will be presented to patient so he will be able to plan his meals/exercises based on pager display data. The Implantation will involve “once in a lifetime” a minimal invasive outpatient procedure (sedation or epidural) while sensors cartridges replacements will be performed with local anesthesia, in a 10 minute’s procedure, every 24 months Following an implementation of the proposed loop a daily blood drop routine will not be essential any more. Furthermore, no special attention should be taken by the user until 24 months period is expired (probably few weeks before). The proposed closed-loop will manage stable glucose levels (keeping glucose fluctuation between upper and lower thresholds) thus improve patient condition and minimize potential complications. The proposed system will be based on a multi-agent system architecture in which autonomous software agents take role in symptom detection, medical condition identification of remote patients, recognition of chronic conditions and early diagnosis of further complications. Présentation de la proposition: Diabetes is a chronic disease that has a significant burden on patients and health care systems. It has been identified as one of the major leading cause of death. The risk of death increases significantly when diabetes occur in conjunction with other health problems such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia. There is no cure for a chronic case, the process of patient care is complex and requires patients taking an active role in the management of their illness. The management of the chronic conditions also involves the coordination of the efforts of different individuals with different skills and functions. Remote patient monitoring (RPM) systems are widely used for handling the underlying problems. Such systems involve the use of technology that allows a remote interface to collect and transmit patient data between a patient and a healthcare provider. Our proposed RPM system is based on a Multi-agent system (MAS) architecture in which autonomous software agents obtain data from physiological sensors automatically, monitor remote patient’s condition, recognize chronic conditions from symptom patterns and helps early diagnosis of further complications. The underlying system is planned to include three types of agents: Symptom detector agents, patient agents and doctor agents. Symptom detector agents perform collection of physiological data from health sensing devices while patient agents process the inputs received from the symptom detector agents in order to recognize the medical condition according to symptom patterns. Doctor agents send the processed medical data to the appropriate specialist and perform remediation tasks such as the adjustments in the dosage of medication. Agents in the RPM system will behave according to Artificial Intelligent planning structures such as Belief-Desire-Intention or Hierarchical Task Networks. An artificial neural network or appropriate expert system models will be employed for inference on recognizing medical conditions from the symptom patterns. System implementation and evaluation will have two phases: • Agent based simulation: Health sensing devices and wireless connections are all simulated in the software environment in order to test behaviors and inference mechanisms of the intelligent agents. Artificial health data will be evaluated. • Actual system deployment: Various health sensing devices and wireless network infrastructure will be employed and system will be tested by utilizing the real-time health data of the subjects selected from the various patient groups. Expertises demandées: 1. Universities and Research Centers: Researchers from universities and research centers with ICT innovations interested in developing algorithms and software for Multi Agent Systems, Artificial Neural Networks and Expert systems. 2. UbiPOL explores hand held devices which are one of the most frequently used devices by usual citizens as a tool to relate their usual life with relevant policies. The expected impact of UbiPOL project is more proactive attitude of citizens toward policy making process by stimulating them create their opinions in the middle of their usual life. Présentation de la proposition: UbiPOL aims to develop a mobile platform that motivates its users to be involved in PMPs. Literature review reveals that one of the reasons that make citizens de-motivated in policy making is the ignorance of relevant policies and PMPs in governments. It is suggested that the more they find connections between their as-usual life activities and relevant policies, the more they become pro-active or motivated to be involved in the PMPs. For this reason, UbiPOL aims to provide context aware knowledge provision with regard to policy making. That is citizens using UbiPOL will be alerted with relevant policies and PMPs when they are moving around physical places according to their as-usual life pattern at the work, commerce, education and so on. With the platform, citizens are expected to be more widely aware of any relevant policies and PMPs for involvement during their as-usual life; be more likely to participate to the relevant PMPs as they find the PMPs in the middle of doing their usual activities; and provide more relevant opinion (or information) to the PMP as it is collected at the right time when it is created from the citizens' experience in their real life. With the platform, governmental agencies are expected to identify issues in society easily through active reporting by citizens; improved citizen satisfaction on agency services and policies; and improved monitoring of policy execution in collaboration with citizens. UbiPOL Consortium currently consists of two academic partners, two governmental partner and two industry partners and is looking for two industry partners who can contribute to text mining and POI (point of interest) data in the UK. Expertises demandées: Experts in text mining who can classify natural text into pre defined categories according to keywords used in each citizen opinions; POI (point of interest) data provider in the UK (we are planning a field trial in Sheffield area) and who can deliver the POI data on mobile devices via Map based user interface.
