This project intends to develop a closed loop disease management based on an
ICT-enabled personalized health care system for the CVD patients, with special
emphasis on treatment and disease management. The system will be based on a
non-invasive multi parameter self-care anti-coagulation and anti-platelet
sensor.
The wireless system should collect the data and give patients on line
solutions.

Blood-Care project scope:
Development of an ICT-enabled personalized health care system for the CVD
patients, with special emphasis on treatment and disease management.
The system will be based on a non-invasive multi parameter self-care
anti-coagulation and anti-platelet sensor, will collect the data from a lot of
patients, and will give patients on line solutions.

Nom provisoire du projet: Development of hybrid control system architecture
for
mobile robot oriented on cognition

Sujet:
The purpose of this research is development and research of principles,
models,
algorithms of hybrid control system architecture of mobile robot based on
neural networks and logical approach. A feature of this project is focus on
simulation of cognitive processes during learning and action of robot.
Challenges to be solved in this project are following:
- acquisition rule-based and semantic net based knowledge from learned neural
network;
- transformation of images in concepts during clustering and classification of
images, in particular, visual and sound;
- usage of basic emotions (positive and negative) in learning of neural
networks and robot;
- implementation of creating of associations between visual and sound (words
and phrases in natural language) and usage of ones for human-robot interaction
to solve navigation tasks,
Testing of proposed framework is planning in dialog learned natural language
system and in software and hardware platforms of mobile robot.
Final goals of the project are:
- development of software for learning and control of mobile robot based on
proposed in the project framework, at that learning must be available and
suitable for user during expoitation of the robot (learning and working are
not
distinguishing),
- testing of proposed solutions on assistive mobile robot solving indoor
navigation tasks for elderly or disabled persons.

Présentation de la proposition:
Necessary research activities: usage of neural networks for natural language
processing,
usage of basic emotions (positive and negative) for learning of neural
networks,
usage of neural networks with preliminary processing for invariant recognition
of visual and sound images,
combination of neural networks and semantic networks in one hybrid system
oriented to cognition, creating of concepts on natural language based on
results of clustering and classification,
usage of hybrid intelligent control systems to solve navigation tasks by
mobile
robot,
usage of hybrid intelligent system for human-robot interaction,
development of dialog system based on proposed hybrid intelligent system,
development of speech-based interface for this dialog system,
development of software for implementation of proposed framework for mobile
robot (software and hardware platform),
simulation or implementation of environment for caregiving of elderly or
disabled persons as test bed for developed software.

Nom provisoire du projet: Ambient Intelligence tools for Energy Efficiency in
buildings

Sujet:
The project intends to define, develop and integrate Ambient Intelligence
services in building control systems. The control systems will be specifically
designed to configure the building in the most efficient way from the energy
point of view, managing not only energy consumption but also energy
production.
A method to assess the reduction of CO2 emissions will be developed.

Présentation de la proposition:
The proposed general objectives are:
1. Increase energy efficiency in buildings/dwellings creating ICT based
solutions that will provide innovative tools to allow users to perform energy
savings, in an intuitive and efficient way.

2. Application of Ambient Intelligence Techniques to design Intelligent
control
systems to reduce energy consumption in buildings. According to this, the
intelligent control systems will be enablers and responsible for the energy
savings. In this way, the energy saving process will become more
independent of
users? behaviour, keeping the comfort levels desired by users.

3. Take advantage of the possibilities offered by ICT technologies regarding
energy consumption metering and intelligent control of buildings. ICT networks
play a strategic role in the deployment of eco-efficient systems.

Expertises demandées:
Industrial Partner: Companies that design, manufacture and integrate
sensors/actuators and control systems for buildings. Companies interested in
adding intelligence to those systems, to optimize the energy efficiency of
buildings and to reduce the need of user interaction with the systems.
Companies that design, manufacture and integrate energy consumption and
production systems for buildings.

Research Partner: Research institutions with expertise in ontologies or
artificial intelligence applied to self-learning and self-configurable ICT
systems that learn from users? preferences.

End user Partner: Building developer (public or private) or building owner
with
access to buildings in use that integrate energy generation systems. The
buildings will need to integrate the systems developed during the project in
order to validate in real conditions the reduction of energy consumption.

Sujet:
In this project, the consortium will investigate the development of technology
to enable early detection of public health events based on different types of
data available in the Internet. In particular, we are targeting the
?unofficial? view given by social media data and the rather ?of-ficial? view
offered by news articles and radio broadcasts.
The consortium currently includes the Intelligent Web and Information Systems
Group at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Aalborg with
competencies in the fields of adaptive Web technologies and
personalisation, as
well as the L3S Research Center offer-ing competencies in the field of data
and
text mining, machine learning and social media data analysis, also related to
health and medicine.

Présentation de la proposition:
The objective of this project is to develop technologies that help to improve
monitoring and detecting public health events early based on informal and
formal knowledge sources avail-able in the Web. Considered data sources
include
audio data (e.g., radio broadcasts), news articles, and social media data such
as medical Weblogs or forums. In particular, the goal of this work is to fuse
medical semantics and Web 2.0. Formal knowledge (e.g., provided by medical
ontologies such as SNOMED CT or the UMLS) will help to incorporate semantics
into the medical text and data mining process.

Sujet:
This project aims at creating at a sophisticated programming and runtime
environment which will provide a generic and scalable infrastructure for
massively-parallel applications from industry and SMEs. The project will
support and ease development of parallel applications, enhance efficiency of
porting across multiple parallel architectures, as well as reduce the costs
for
developing and maintaining parallel applications for multicore parallel
computers.

Présentation de la proposition:
Problem:
Existing programming paradigms for parallel computers are too complex and too
low level or too high level at the cost of performance to be achieved on
modern
multicore computers or clusters of multicore processors. Parallelizing and
optimizing programs is thus tedious, time-consuming and error-prone not only
for programmers with little or no experience in the field of parallel
processing but also for experts.
Solution:
Within this project we target mostly C and C++ (Fortran is an option as well)
codes coming from industry and SMEs that are computationally and data
intensive.
We will use compiler technology and performance analysis combined with dynamic
methods to semi-automatically parallelize and tune applications for a variety
of computers based on multicore processors and clusters of them.

Expertises demandées:
We are looking for partners from industry or SMEs that can provide an
application written in C, C++ or Fortran as a pilot for this project. The
application can be sequential or preferably already parallel (such as MPI or
Openmp) which will be subject to an improved parallelisation or
optimisation by
the developed environment.

Advanced healthcare diagnostics using probabilistic reasoning

Présentation de la proposition:
Probabilistic expert systems utilising Bayesian methods are capable of
providing the best diagnostic advice from evidence in the form of symptoms.
However, in order to make these systems computationally tractable some
simplifying assumptions are often made; such as there is only one underlying
disease that could be causing the symptoms; or that only a certain number of
positive symptoms can be considered at any one time. Modified Bayesian methods
such as Binary Node 2 layer Bayesian networks with noisy-or conditional
probabilities BN2NO seek to overcome the limitations but are only partially
successful. This project seeks solutions that can overcome all the
drawbacks of
the current generation of diagnostic software.

test
the developed systems. This should be in the area of a) Cardiovascular
diseases
b) Diabetes c) Renal failure d) Liver failure: the choice is still open.

Nom provisoire du projet: PreMaGo - Web-based Prediction Markets for
Participatory Governance

Sujet:
PreMaGo will develop and evaluate an new prediction market model for
supporting
funding decisions by aggregating information from a possibly large
community of
stakeholders. The concept will be realised as an open, web-based collaboration
platform with facilities for suggesting and discussing prospective funding
projects and for voting about which of these funding projects will benefit
their stakeholders most. The implementation of the concept will be based on
semantic and social networking technologies as well as data mining and
reputation/trust building measures. The PreMaGo concept and platform will be
evaluated in 2-3 domains such as funding projects of regional community
administrations and goverments, research funding agencies, charitable
foundations or funding of open-source software development.

Présentation de la proposition:
The PreMaGo concept is based on the following principles:
 Transparency. Funding decisions are currently affected by various
information
flow barriers. Increasing transparency and openness with regard to project
ideas, evaluations, reviews, progress reports and interfaces between project
results will help to remove information flow barriers and ultimately make
publicly funded projects more efficient.
 Community intelligence. Funding decisions as well as success assessment
should
be primarily based on the judgment of a large stakeholder community.
 Big impacts with small steps. Conceiving and realising bright ideas does
often
not require hundred man-year developments or multi-million amounts of funding.
Their realisation can be achieved by bringing together innovative ideas with
clearly defined features and requirements based on direct stakeholder
involvement.
Technologically the PreMaGo platform will employ innovative next generation
ICT
and Web technologies, such as:
 Social networking communication models for prompt and efficient information
flows,
 Semantic technologies for structuring, classifying, annotation, interlinking
and searching possibly large proposal/project idea spaces,
 Data mining and decision support techniques, which empower funding
organizations to timely identify stakeholder needs and promising project
ideas.

 Reputation and trust building measures, which allow participants of the
platform to assess the reliability, track record, competences etc. of other
participants.
In the PreMaGo project, we will (1) develop a transparent, fair and efficient
prediction market model for aggregating information with regard to funding
decisions, (2) implementing a open, web-based collaboration platform for
organising this market and the participatory funding process based on next
generation ICT and Web technologies, (3) evaluating the concept and platform
with selected funding organizations in different domains.
First preliminary steps towards this goal were already made with Cofundos ? a
market for open-source software R&D (available at http://Cofundos.org) and the
ParticipatoryResearch initiative (online at http://wiki.cofundos.org).
